Start with a controlled site-readiness survey
A flow wrapper may fit on a layout but still be difficult to deliver, position, operate, clean or integrate. Record the complete route from vehicle access to final position, including doorways, turns, floor loading constraints, lifting responsibility and temporary removal of guarding or line equipment where permitted.
Protect operating and maintenance space
Allow for film-reel loading, access to the former and sealing sections, guard opening, cleaning, change parts, electrical panels, reject removal and operator routes. Check line height, product transfer direction, floor levels and whether downstream packs need space to cool or stabilise before the next process.
Confirm utilities from the final machine documentation
Do not assume electrical supply, compressed air, extraction, gas, network or other services from a generic machine type. Record the stated supply, connection point, isolator, pressure or quality requirement, responsibility for installation and how each service will be tested. Where gas flush is proposed, the product, gas system and pack-performance validation need a separate project-specific assessment.
Close every mechanical and control interface
Define product arrival, discharge, conveyor speed, start/stop permissions, starved and blocked states, emergency-stop boundary, inspection results, rejects, recipe ownership and data exchange. A line-level risk assessment must consider the combined equipment and access created by integration.
Have production materials and responsible people available
Commissioning should use representative products and production-grade film. Identify operators, maintenance personnel, engineering, quality and project owners who can approve settings, training and open items. Delays caused by missing product, film, utilities or line access should be separated from machine performance.
